NJMVP organized a Meeting on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at NBIC with Middlesex County Law Enforcement Agencies and about 22 Muslim Organizations from Middlesex County, NJ, to facilitate Educating and building relationships with the local Muslim Community.<\/p>\n

The following topics were discussed.<\/p>\n

Education and building relationships:<\/strong>
\n– How best can we educate Law enforcement agencies on Islam \/ Muslims
\n– How can we educate law enforcement on South Asian challenges and their direct impact in Middlesex County
\n– How can we establish law enforcement and Prosecutor’s visits to Masjids?
\n– What setups can be taken to educate the Board of Education on our challenges and sensitivity training<\/p>\n

Questions for the Prosecutor\u2019s Office:<\/strong>
\n1. Role and responsibilities of the Prosecutors Office- POC in case of an Emergent issue
\n2. How does your department define Islamophobia and bias crimes, and how do you identify and track
\nthem?
\n3. Role of each agency and whom to contact \u2013 (Contact information)
\n4. How does each law enforcement agency collaborate with one another?
\n5. What training do Law enforcement officers receive to recognize and respond to Islamophobic and other
\nbias-motivated crimes?
\n6. How will your department work with Muslim community leaders and organizations to prevent and
\naddress Islamophobia and other bias crimes?
\n7. What steps do you take to ensure that investigations of Islamophobic and other bias-motivated crimes
\nare conducted fairly and without bias?
\n8. How do you address concerns that some officers may hold biases or prejudices that could impact their
\nability to investigate and respond to these types of crimes objectively?
\n9. What resources are available to victims of Islamophobic and other bias-motivated crimes in your
\njurisdiction, and how do you ensure they are aware of them?
\n10. How do you engage with the wider community to raise awareness about the harms of Islamophobia and
\nother forms of bias and encourage reporting these crimes?
\n11. What measures does your department take to hold perpetrators of Islamophobic and other bias-
\nmotivated crimes accountable, and to prevent such crimes from happening again in the future?
